Summary

MEDLAND 2020 project main objective is to promote a common integrated land management scheme to protect natural resources in synergy with social and economic valorisation in the Mediterranean basin. This project is scheduled to take place from 1 July 2013 to 31 December 2014.

 

MEDLAND 2020 is a capitalisation project and its overall aim is to strengthen the impact of the results and achievements of previous MED projects on territories in the fields of sustainable land and natural resources management in Mediterranean basin.

 

The project includes the participation of 14 partners linked to MED projects from 7 northern rim countries (France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece and Portugal), and one invited country (Albania) in the partnership, along with a collaboration with the southern rim. The 14 partners are the following:

13 capitalised projects

These 14 partners have participated in 13 projects on Mediterranean forests and natural areas, grouped into four main themes:

  • Integrated management of natural protected areas, as a tool for rural development accomplishing with social and economic demands of the inhabitants

  • Natural risks management (especially wildfires), increasing the efficiency of fire prevention, citizens and infrastructure protection and social awareness

  • Social & economic valorisation of the territory to reinforce the local development through sustainable tourism and marketing of local products

  • Smart natural resource management through innovation and new emerging markets promotion (from emerging uses as biomass to new challenges as environmental services payment)
